This supercar is effectively...

This supercar is effectively a new set of body panels stretched over the ZR1. And just like the production version of the top-of-the-range Corvette, the pumped-up styling displays the most important feature – its 6.1-litre supercharged V8 – through a creased glass panel in the bonnet.

The concept has been created by an independent South African designer called Idries Noah. He says his aim was to “reflect raw power” in the design, while taking styling cues from legendary cars such as the Shelby Daytona and Corvette Stingray. And he’s certainly fulfilled the brief.

The newcomer’s massively flared rear haunches, gaping front grille and vast five-spoke alloys ooze aggression, and the creased bodywork gives a modern edge to a classic American look.

Noah’s design was revealed at the same time as Corvette released a special ‘Competition’ edition of its C6 supercar. Built to celebrate the brand’s double success at the Sebring 12-hour race last year, the limited edition features special honeycomb grilles, a Z06-style rear spoiler and grey five-spoke alloys – 18 inches at the front and 19 inches at the back.
