This incredible car is the Sound Satellite, unveiled at the Tokyo commercial vehicle motor show. It transforms a workhorse utility vehicle into a dance club venue!

Designed to highlight the versatility of the Hiace for a variety of applications, the Sound Satellite is a mobile disco aimed at young buyers. The idea is that it can be driven to a location, opened up and used as the base for a hi-tech DJ event.

Behind the double doors on the nearside is a full set of studio gear, including turntables, giant speakers, a mixing desk and a vast array of sensational lighting. To add to the visual experience, two plasma TV screens fold out on the roof, while the other side of the van opens up to reveal a merchandise stall. Our main picture shows all the equipment in action, with two professional DJs at work. Although this concept is unlikely ever to reach production, it at least shows that Toyota is trying to "sound out" a new customer base.
