Cars are getting greener...
Cars are getting greener, claim industry chiefs. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) says more efficient engines have cut CO2 output by five million tonnes in the past 10 years. Average new car emissions have fallen 12 per cent to 167.2 g/km since 1997. “This is despite the fact there are 16.5 per cent more vehicles on the road,” said the SMMT’s Christopher Macgowan.
This amazing machine...
This amazing machine is the work of Dutch coachbuilder Vandenbrink Design, and shows how an estate version of the firm’s 612 Scaglietti could look.
Called the Shooting Brake, it integrates a hatchback and an extended roofline into the 612’s shape. There’s also the option of two-tone paintwork, with the roof and tail finished in silver, as on the car in our picture above.
The 612 Shooting Brake does not carry Maranello’s official blessing, but that hasn’t stopped Vandenbrink from making striking coachbuilt Ferraris in the past. Its 599 GTO – a 599 GTB restyled in a body inspired by 1962’s 250 GTO – recently went into production, and a 599 GT Convertible could be on the way, too.
While the 612 Shooting Brake is a design concept for now, Vandenbrink will build it should enough potential buyers show interest. If it does get the go-ahead, the model will use the same engine as the 575 M.
As for the price? At least ?145,000 – and that doesn’t include the cost of the ?175,000 donor car.
