The mag"s picture is...

The mag"s picture is of the all-new M탩gane-based SUV, tipped to be called the Kilimandjaro, the French spelling of the legendary African peak. It"s under development in France and Japan - where alliance partner Nissan is based - and will be developed on the forthcoming C-SUV platform. Boasting four-wheel drive, it will be a spiritual successor to the Scenic RX4, which failed to hit the mark in the UK.

However, Renault is determined not to make the same mistake with the new off-roader, and bosses are promising it will be very different to its predecessor.

As well as sporting real off-road ability, the car will have a more versatile interior, and a much wider range of engines. Renault"s 1.5 and 1.9-litre dCi diesels are sure to feature, and there are even rumours of a petrol/electric hybrid unit. Sourced from Nissan, this would be derived from a deal involving Toyota. The car - which is due on sale in 2007 - is likely to be built in South Korea.
