The latest figures from...

The latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), for the first half of the year show Kia and Daewoo are on top in terms of fastest-growing sales.

The launch of the Picanto helped Kia jump from just over 10,000 cars sold in the first six months of 2003 to 15,239 for this year. And due to the popularity of the Kalos, Daewoo has won back many customers who deserted it during its bankruptcy troubles. Sales have risen from 5,673 last year to 9,218 in 2004.

Another firm on the up is Bentley. The popularity of the Continental GT has seen sales rise from 169 this time last year to 788 in 2004. The SMMT predicts more than 2.6million new cars will find homes this year, beating 2003"s record 2.5million.
