The coolest movie motorist of all-time is James Bond. Sean Connery topped a poll conducted by Churchill Insurance, finishing ahead of second-placed Steve McQueen as Lt. Frank Bullit and Batman, who came third. David Hasselhoff"s Michael Knight and Inspector Morse also made the top 10. Representing female drivers was Penelope Pitstop from the Wacky Races cartoon, who was fifth.

Instead, this revolutionary wheel/tyre has hundreds of holes to let the noise pass through it. Sandberg is having several prototypes made and plans to fit them to a Volvo for a series of long-term tests.

The green light has...

The green light has been given for Donington Park to prepare for its hosting of the British Grand Prix in 2010. Bosses at the Leicestershire circuit received planning permission from the local council last week, allowing them to start major rebuilding work at the site.

The ÷£100million project will include a new pit and paddock on the main straight, reprofiling of the existing track with sweeping new bends and a raft of safety improvements to bring it up to modern F1 standards.
