I"m not going to name...
I"m not going to name any of the warring activists in this column, because that would only give them the free - and often dangerously misleading - publicity they seek for themselves as they pathetically jump on to the anti-4x4 bandwagon.
The forthcoming Lancer...
The forthcoming Lancer Evo will be the automatic choice for keen drivers, after Mitsubishi revealed details of the car’s new semi-auto gearbox.
Called Sport Shift Transmission, it uses twin clutches in a similar way to Volkswagen’s DSG set-up. The hi-tech box is operated by
paddleshifters on the steering wheel, and has three modes: Normal, Sport and S-Sport.
Connected to the new unit is the Super All Wheel Control system. This can vary the amount of torque to each individual wheel, providing more grip and giving drivers greater control over the car when on the limit.
THERE"S no doubt about it – the next-generation Mégane is a courageous new design for Renault. And it’ll be underpinned by a brave new platform, too. Developed with alliance partner Nissan, the new chassis will be first seen on a Renault in the shape of the Koleos SUV, which is tipped to make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, before going on sale in the UK in early 2008.
Essentially the same as that used by Nissan’s Qashqai, it’s a very
versatile layout, which allows for both front-wheel and four-wheel drive. That means the Mégane engineers have the option of all-wheel power, potentially for the range-topping performance cars.
For all Renault models, the platform promises to bring more space and a better driving experience than ever before.
