It"s impossible to name them all here, but a handful are, I predict, stars of tomorrow. Greg Shilton looks like a cross between Albert Einstein and pop singer Jarvis Cocker - so you wouldn"t expect him to have invented a futuristic, semi-autonomous commuter vehicle system. It effectively puts motorway drivers in long, computer-controlled trains of cars travelling inches apart, leaving spaces for vehicles joining from slip roads.

British motorists are facing an extra í‚á£8million in fines this month. That"s what is expected to be raised following the DVLA"s introduction of new car tax rules. Drivers who don"t keep their road fund licence up to date are automatically fined í‚á£80 - and 97,000 penalty notices are expected to be issued by the end of the month. The measures should crack down on tax dodgers, help keep records more accurate and get unsafe vehicles off the road.

The Qashqai had better watch out! Peugeot has confirmed a model based on its Prologue concept, seen at this yearò€™s Paris Motor Show, will go on sale here by the end of 2009.

Itò€™s codenamed the T84 and is likely to be called the 3008 when it hits showrooms. The SUV/hatchback crossover will be the first model to take the fight directly to Nissanò€™s smash-hit Qashqai.

Two-wheel-drive variants of the 3008 go on sale next year, with a choice of petrol or diesel power. And in 2011, an all-wheel-drive diesel-electric hybrid will join the line-up.

Peugeot anticipates the latter will have a power output of 197bhp, with CO2 emissions of 109g/km. Prices for the 3008 range are set carry a premium of about Ò£1,000 over the equivalent 308 hatchback models. Further details are set to be revealed at the official unveiling early next year.

However, thatò€™s not all Peugeot has in store. Our sources say the company is also readying an all-new seven-seat MPV, based on the same platform. This is due to appear in showrooms in 2010.
