Take a look at the first official pictures of Citroen’s stylish new C5!

Moving firmly into Ford Mondeo territory, the new French model aims to draw buyers in with its sharp looks. Competition in this sector of the market is hotting up with the recent launch of the new Mazda 6 and Vauxhall’s next generation Vectra due next year.

The new C5 has adopted some quirky cues from the larger C6 including the neat concave rear windscreen. The French family car is longer and wider than its predecessor, with large air-intakes and rakish headlamps giving it a distinctive appearance.

But it’s interior quality that most prospective buyers in this segment will be looking for, and Citroen has tried to make the inside as refreshing as the exterior. The fixed hub steering wheel from the C4 is carried over, covered in buttons to control a raft of hi-tech equipment. This includes Citroen’s next generation sat-nav and even a driver’s seat back massage function.

Ride comfort should be up to Citroen’s usual smooth standards – Hydractive three Plus self-levelling suspension will be offered as an option. Estate and saloon versions will be available, each with a wide choice of petrol and diesel engines. These range from a 1.8-litre 127bhp petrol unit to the range-topping HDi V6 with a healthy 208bhp.
