The Strongbox is a small...

The Strongbox is a small but tough metal safe that can be secured to any fixed point inside your car using a steel cable that locks into the safe itself.

Being a fully paid-up...

Being a fully paid-up member of the common sense party, it"s scary how I can mix and mingle with all sorts of people, and end up with a consensus regarding cars and their emissions. Most of us agree that even if the entire planet swapped from a vehicle putting out more than 200g/km of CO2 to one which emits less than 110g/km, such as a Toyota Prius, not a lot would change on the global weather front. Yet, if you listen to any politician - or worse still, the BBC News - us drivers are dooming the planet to be drowned and then fried! Now, don"t get me wrong. I think the industry should keep working on improving fuel efficiency, but I also reckon people need to try and keep things in perspective.

It"s the new estate...

It"s the new estate - and the magazine"s spies have already caught the prototype on test. As with the outgoing Passat, the next-generation carrier will offer all the benefits of a traditional estate, as designers have worked hard to achieve the right mix of style and practicality.

Mattel’s ?70k birthday special:

Mattel’s ?70k birthday special:

YOU wouldn’t want to crash into the skirting boards in this toy car. At 0,000 (?71,000), the Hot Wheels model (above) is the most expensive in the world!

The diamond-studded car was created to commemorate maker Mattel’s 40th anniversary. There are 2,700 blue, black and white diamonds embedded in the 18-carat white gold frame that covers the undercarriage and the engine. Instead of brake lights, it has rubies.

The 1 to 64-scale die-cast model was revealed at the 105th American International Toy Fair, and will be auctioned for charity.

No respite for drivers at pumps:

EVEN though the price of oil has dipped, the saving is barely registering at the pumps, says the AA. Its latest figures show a 10 per cent reduction in crude oil prices last month. But the cost of petrol fell by only one quarter-of-a-penny during that time.

Supermarket giant Asda was cheapest for petrol in February, with an average price of 100.90 pence per litre, according to the AA fuel report. Most expensive was Texaco, at 104.79p per litre. It was the same story in the diesel league table, with Asda selling the cheapest, at 106.46ppl, and Texaco dearest, at 109.94ppl.

Jaguar lines up Geneva double:

COLLECTIBLE cars don’t come more exclusive than Jaguar’s new XJ Portfolio SE. The flagship saloon debuts at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, and only a limited number will be built.

Power comes from the firm’s 4.2-litre V8 engine, while all models get aluminium side air vents, black or gold paintwork and unique 20-inch alloys with a red Jaguar ‘Heritage’ badge.

Inside, the cabin features an oak veneer, with special motifs and Jaguar badging throughout. There’s also Bluetooth wireless connectivity for up to five phones. Joining the XJ on the stands will be the XKR Portfolio SE.
