Kia is shining a ray...

Kia is shining a ray of light on the Chicago Show! The Korean manufacturer has released this teaser illustration of an all-new concept set to debut at the Chicago Motor Show next month.

Dubbed the Kia Ray Concept, itò€™s designed to offer a vision of a future styling direction for the firm, as well as showcasing its latest plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Kia is playing its cards close to its chest with this semi-obscured sketch, but itò€™s clear that a sporty coupe bodystyle has been chosen. With its flared wheel arches, muscular haunches and a steeply raked windscreen, Kia has stylish European models in its sights.

There are no specific details yet about the Chevrolet Volt-style plug-in hybrid system under the skin. However, it confirms that Kia is taking a serious look at the fledgling technology, which combines the benefits of a zero-emissions electric car with the practicality of a petrol-powered model.

Kia has confirmed that it is already testing various hybrid protypes in different locations around the world and, more importantly, that testing of diesel and petrol hybrids will begin on UK roads this year.
