Look closely at our first official picture of Vauxhall"s revised hatchback family favourite, and you will see a brand new front bumper, along with extra brightwork on the grille and fresh light clusters. The model will also feature new tail-lamps, while three-door Sport Hatch models wear a fashionable honeycomb grille.

If Buck Rogers needed a second-hand car, this is what he’d buy! The Subaru SVX looks like it’s come from another planet – but you can pick one up for a very earthly ?2,000.
This will get you a stylish coupé with a smooth automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. A potent 226bhp 3.3-litre flat-six engine under the bonnet also ensures that it sounds the part, while performance is impressive.
Effectively a 2+2, the coupé was only available for three years, and it’s something of a cult car among enthusiasts. That can see good examples fetch more than ?6,000, and you’ll occasionally see models advertised at franchised dealers after being part exchanged by loyal owners. But for that kind of money, you need to be buying a real low-mileage car with a full dealer service history.
Downsides include fuel consumption in the region of 21mpg and expensive parts and servicing. The latter is a particular problem, as the complexity of the engine and transmission mean it’s probably wise to stay within the Subaru dealer network.
Its high insurance rating also makes the SVX a car for more mature drivers – but should ensure that most previous owners will have been well heeled enough to care for it properly.
