The firms receiving the money say it"s justified as 100,000 plates are sold a year, bringing in í‚á£700m. The details were revealed after a Freedom of Information Act request.

Green highlights on the plan denote models not yet announced, and the cute four-seater is set in to appear in 2007. It"s described as a new A-segment vehicle - the industry code for a city car - and the badge is added in brackets. Inspired by the Trepiuno concept from 2004"s Geneva Motor Show, the three-door will be built at the firm"s Tychy plant in Poland.

Fiat sister company Alfa Romeo will launch a "future high-end range" in 2008, and more details are given elsewhere on the site. "Maserati acquisition to extend reach of Alfa Romeo brand into high-end sports market," it reads. So fans can look forward to faster and more desirable Alfas as the marque heads into Porsche territory.

The chart reveals when facelifted cars will appear, while next year sees the arrival of a replacement for the Stilo hatch. In 2007 the all-new Alfa 149 will go on sale, along with a new Fiat family car, currently codenamed the D200.
