The US already has two...

The US already has two superior car shows - Detroit and Los Angeles. Add Chicago in the first week of February, as well as New York, and that"s four major car exhibitions before spring has properly sprung. Britain doesn"t even get one big show a year, so I suppose that"s why Land Rover decided it had little choice but to reveal the Disco on foreign soil. Much as I would have preferred the unveiling to be at Birmingham"s NEC, the firm with its roots in Solihull and its heart in nearby Gaydon did the right thing by choosing New York. Elsewhere, the car would have had to compete with more headline-grabbing launches.

Is this the cheapest new car ever? Indian manufacturer TATA is planning to build a fresh model for its domestic market, and is aiming to sell one million each year at only í‚á£2,000! A company official said there are no plans to bring the machine here, due to the UK"s stringent safety standards.

Go-ahead car firm Kia...

Go-ahead car firm Kia has revealed two new faces this week! First comes an updated version of the best-selling Ceeò€™d hatch ò€“ and itò€™s being hotly pursued by an all-new Sorento SUV.

Both cars will break cover at next monthò€™s Frankfurt Motor Show ò€“ where bosses will also announce that, together with partner Hyundai, Kia has leapfrogged Ford to become the worldò€™s fourth biggest car maker.

On the outside, the fresh Ceeò€™d is 25mm longer than the existing car, plus it wears the companyò€™s new grille. Inside is a revised steering wheel, red instrument illumination, a revamped centre console and updated stereo.

A new ECO-dynamics version will be launched for the first time in UK showrooms, too. It will feature stop-start technology as part of a raft of fuel-saving measures, and promises CO2 emissions as low as 110g/km.

The seven-seat Sorento is also longer and lower than the model it replaces, and gets a much more roomy and luxurious interior. Yet engineers have managed to trim 215kg off the kerbweight by using a new monocoque bodyshell.

Full details and pricing will be announced for the revised Ceeò€™d on 1 October, while more info on the Sorento will be revealed closer to its launch in February.
