Sadly, British buyers won"t benefit as the car will be on sale only in Japan. A spokesman for Toyota UK said: "This is a model for the home market. At the moment, there are no plans to bring it to Europe, and it"s not related to the city car we"re developing with PSA Peugeot Citroen. That isn"t likely to appear until the Geneva Motor Show in February."

The names of the first 20 people to buy a Jaguar in China will be all over our TV screens later this month. But they will be travelling so fast, they won"t be readable. Gate-crashing into the...

Gate-crashing into the limelight currently enjoyed by the R8 supercar, this TT with a difference is called the Clubsport quattro, and is powered by a 2.0-litre 260bhp turbocharged engine.

Based on a stripped down TT Roadster, the car has no windscreen surround, and no hood. Instead, driver and passenger are protected from the elements by a wraparound glass screen.

The front end is dominated by the single-frame grille which has aluminium inserts to make its design look even flatter than it already is. On top of that, the four rings of the logo are not located in the grille as on most Audi models, but on the bonnet.

Officially, the Clubsport is being described as a design and technology study, and as such is fitted with ceramic brakes, LED lights and a bespoke interior – but will it make production? To find out, don’t miss the next issue of Auto Express…
