Itò€™s not long now...

Itò€™s not long now before we get to feast our eyes on the new Rolls Royce RR4 at the Geneva Showò€¦ But that hasnò€™t stopped our spies from hunting down a close-to-production prototype and bagging the best interior shots yet!

For example, the first...

For example, the first claim is that "the average annual distance travelled by residents in Great Britain rose by five per cent to 6,800 miles in 2004". But after carefully studying the full report for several hours, the facts weren"t so depressing. The truth is we each did an average of 6,762 miles last year (that"s motorists and non-motorists). So we travelled less in 2004 than at the end of the last century and the start of this one.

Councillors defended the move by pointing to the number of Christ-mas party and dinner bookings that have already been made at hotels and restaurants at this time of year. They have called for such venues to include a campaign leaflet with their booking forms.

Filling stations in...

Filling stations in the UK could soon have plug-in ò€˜pumpsò€™ to top up electric cars.

The Petrol Retailersò€™ Association (PRA) argues thatò€™s the best way to get more battery vehicles on

the road. But PRA chief Ray Holloway says the electricity should be solar-powered, too.

Hollowayò€™s comments follow Prime Minister Gordon Brownò€™s recent announcement that the Government is pledging Ò£100million of investment in electric vehicles over the next five years in a bid to encourage more drivers to convert to the eco-friendly technology.

But Holloway claims these vehicles are not as green as people believe. ò€œThe electricity is still largely generated by burning fuel,ò€ he said. ò€œWe need to build solar panels on forecourt canopies, or windmills at the site, to power the plug sockets. Thatò€™s what the Government should consider.ò€

He added motorists could take a break and shop while they wait for their cars to recharge.
