Devon could soon be...

Devon could soon be a word more synonymous with tyre-smoke and torque rather than clotted cream and cows. The Devon GTX, Americạ€™s latest supercar, has been snapped in testing by our spies.

Originally envisioned as part of the Dodge Viper brand, Devon was forced to go ahead with their own original design after Chrysler turned down a multi-million pound bid to use the Viper name.

Although not able to capitalise on the Dodge muscle car brand name, the GTX has taken some styling cues from iṭ€™s well established contemporary. In silhouette alone the GTX could easily be mistaken for the latest Viper.

These photographs show the first glimpse of the real GTX, with all other images released so far being CGI renderings. The photos give us proof that Devon is using McLaren F1-style butterfly doors and sports a glass roof and carbon-fibre body. As for the powerplant, our spies overheard engineers bragging about the caṛ€™s 650 horsepower.

More details will become available as the car nears its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours in late August. Rumours suggest the Devon GTX will be taking to the Nurburgring in an attempt to beat the lap record to help boost publicity for the car.
