Volvo had an eye-catching way of getting its message across at the Tokyo Motor Show. Bosses turned the windows of a V70 estate into TV screens, and played video clips of their cars in action. The vehicle was badged "Clean All Its Life", and several clips related to how components can be recycled.

Three plants in Nottingham, 40 cars, machinery and parts are available for í‚á£1.5million. Retiring founder Richard Stewart said: "You need enthusiasm, but there"s scope to expand."

Designed, engineered and built in the UK, the Transit gets a modern face and car-like cabin. An imposing three-bar grille winged by huge headlights gives a modern feel, while inside the seats are more comfortable.

The 2006 Transit will be the first Ford van to use diesels developed with PSA Peugeot Citroen. Six oil-burners will be on offer, plus an LPG-compatible petrol. More than five million Transits have been sold worldwide since 1965 - 1.5 million in the UK. The van is on sale in June.
