It"s one of two stunning variations on the same lightweight, V8-powered sports car theme, the other being the GTC coupé. Both offer around 420bhp, cover 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds and hit a 185mph top speed. The GTC is priced at ÷£49,950 and the R/T ÷£53,950. Boss Tony Stelliga said: "In the next year, we hope to sell around 50 examples."

Formal proposals for EU member states will come next year. The plan is intended to cut European road accidents by making cars more visible.

Could it be the ultimate high-performance 4x4? A 280bhp go-anywhere Unimog, developed by German tuner Brabus, was unveiled at the Dubai Motor Show. Based on the standard U500, it has a 6.4-litre engine which produces a huge 1,100Nm of torque - three times that of a Jaguar X-Type 2.2-litre diesel. It doesn"t come cheap, though, at around ÷£156,000.
