Campaigners against proposed daytime running lights for UK cars claim the move would create an extra 0.25kg of carbon dioxide emissions from each car every hour.

Drivers Against Daytime Running Lights say that using lamps will wipe out 50 per cent of the 3.9 million tonne CO2 savings made in 2005 by the UK Carbon Trust. Britain currently emits 560 million tonnes of CO2 annually.
