The car is being designed and engineered at Volkswagen"s headquarters in Wolfsburg. But, unlike its predecessor, the newcomer will be an exclusively VW affair. Although the S-MAX and Galaxy people carriers have already been launched, the platform-sharing Mondeo line-up arrives next year with a range of four-door, five-door and estate bodystyles on offer.
These exclusive pictures show what buyers can expect from the line-up, and sleek looks are guaranteed, no matter which variant you choose. The load-lugger is going to build on the practicality of the existing model with an even larger boot. And in order to take on the latest MPVs, it will also have neat, fold-flat rear seats, as well as clever underfloor stowage.
However, the new Mondeo won’t find it easy to jump to the top of the class. Rivals such as Volkswagen’s Passat and the Honda Accord already provide bags of appeal, along with high-quality interiors, plenty of space and attractive exterior designs. What’s more, the competition is set to get even stronger when Vauxhall launches its next-generation Vectra. It will be coming to a showroom near you in 2008 - a year after the new Mondeo arrives.
